Curcuma (curcuma longa), also known as yellow ginger, turmeric, curcuma or turmeric, is a plant from the zingiberaceae family. This small climbing shrub, native to the Asian forest, especially India, is widely cultivated in tropical climates. The first literary reference to this plant dates back to 600 BC. where it is described as a coloring plant. Cultivated for over 2,000 years, turmeric is one of the oldest oriental spices with which the cult of the sun has always been associated.
Its use in cooking is now widespread, and it is usually part of the mixture we call curry. It is also used in many fish and rice dishes. Since it is cheaper than saffron and also has a yellow color, it is often used as a substitute for saffron as a food coloring.
Curcuma perfumes, gives color, corrects acidity, but is also used as an active ingredient in food supplements and dietary products in the field of health, wellness and sport. Its virtues are numerous and act in different areas, including cardiovascular, articular, intestinal, muscular and hepatic.
