    Macadamia Kernel

Dried Fruits | Dried Fruit | Seeds | Berries | Muesli

The Macadamia is a delicious nut with a buttery flavor, very nutritious, but not as well known as other fruits and oil seeds.

Macadamia is the name given to the nut and the fruit as a whole of trees native to the forests of Australia (this fruit consists of a green coating, the inside of which contains the nut, a brown shell with a creamy kernel). Macadamia is also the genus of these plants, which belong to the Proteaceae family.

The commercially important species are the Macadamia integrifolia (which produces nuts with a smoother shell) and the Macadamia tetraphylla (which produces nuts with a rough shell). The others are either inedible or poisonous due to the presence of cyanogenic glycosides.

Macadamia cultivation did not initially flourish in Australia. Introduced in Hawaii, the place was considered the world's largest producer of the nut for many years. Thanks to this success, the crop gained due importance in its country of origin, and in 2000, its production became the largest of all.

Macadamia nuts can be eaten fresh or incorporated into various recipes, such as bread, pies, cakes, cookies, truffles, bonbons and ice cream. Nuts can also be eaten as a snack (just toast them and salt them) or as an ingredient in salads. Macadamia nuts can also be used to make delicious butter, which is gluten-free and high in protein.

When it comes to its derivative, macadamia oil, it is similar to olive oil and adds a special flavor to dishes. The oil is also widely used in the cosmetics industry.

Nutritional benefits: Although each type of fruit has a specific combination of nutrients, in general, most are a source of vitamins B1, B6, E and folic acid and minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus and iron, among others. The fat in nuts is predominantly unsaturated, a type of fat that contributes to maintaining normal blood cholesterol levels.

May contain traces of other nuts and soy.
