Indian Ginseng is a small, shrubby perennial plant, growing 35-75 cm high, native to Africa, the Mediterranean region and India. The tomentose branches extend radially from a central stem. The leaves are pale green, elliptical, usually up to 10-12 cm long. The flowers are small, green and bell-shaped. The ripe fruit is orange-red.
The species name somnifera means sleep-inducing in Latin. The literal translation of this plant's name in Sanskrit is "the smell and strength of a horse", alluding to its properties as one of the most important plants in Ayurvedic medicine and traditional medicine systems.
The plant's long, brown, tuberous roots have been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine. It was mentioned in ancient Indian medical texts. Ashwagandha is used in Indian herbal medicine for a variety of uses. In Yemen, where it is known as "ubab". The dried leaves are ground into a powder from which a paste is made and used for burns and wounds.

*Infusion time: 5 minutes.
*Recommended quantity: 1 tablespoon of Indian Ginseng root for one liter (1L) of water.
