Teas | Medicinal Plants | Aromatic Herbs | Tisanes | Infusions

Espinheira Santa is a plant from the Celastraceae family. Popularly known as espinheira-santa, espinheira-divina, maiteno, salvavidas, sombra-de-touro, erva-cancerosa, congorça, cancerosa, cancorosa, espinho-de-deus, and congorça.

Espinheira Santa refers to a plant known scientifically as Maytenus ilicifolia. It is native to South America, mainly Brazil, and is often used in traditional medicine for its potential health benefits. The plant is also known by other names, including "santa espinheira", "maiteno" and "tinhorão".

The used parts of Espinheira Santa are the leaves, which can be administered in the form of tea, capsules with dry extract, tinctures and fluid extract. Espinheira Santa tea has always been very popular in alternative medicine, as it has always been widely used by indigenous tribes in South America, and is popularly considered a "holy remedy". In addition to internal use, the plant's tea or ointments can also be used topically to minimize the pain of wounds and facilitate healing.

Espinheira Santa is used to treat stomach problems such as ulcers, gastritis, heartburn, burning and dyspepsia, and is also effective against H. Pylori.

Espinheira Santa is traditionally used to support digestive health, especially for gastric problems. It is often used as a natural remedy for conditions such as indigestion, gastritis and gastric ulcers. The plant is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may contribute to its traditional use in the treatment of inflammatory conditions. Some studies suggest that Espinheira Santa may have protective effects against the development of gastric ulcers.
