    Chickpeas are a good source of calcium, iron, protein, fiber and tryptophan, which is why they help combat depression and constipation, for example. They belong to the same group as beans, soybeans and peas.

    Chickpeas are great in salads, soups and in the form of a pâté known as hummus and as a substitute for beans at lunch or dinner. Combined with a cereal such as rice, you get a protein with excellent biological value.

    Eating chickpeas regularly has many health benefits, such as:

    1. Helping to reduce the absorption of cholesterol in the intestine, as it is rich in the antioxidants saponins and soluble fiber;
    2. Strengthening the immune system and preventing cancer, due to the saponins;
    3. Help maintain muscle health, as it is rich in protein;
    4. Help fight depression, as it contains tryptophan, a compound that stimulates the production of feel-good hormones;
    5. Improve intestinal transit, as it is rich in fiber;
    6. Helps prevent anemia, as it is rich in iron and folic acid.

    Humus recipe

    Ingredients:

    • 500 grams of cooked chickpeas
    • 1/2 cup sesame paste
    • Juice of 1 lemon
    • 2 peeled garlic cloves
    • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
    • 1 pinch of salt and pepper
    • Chopped parsley

    Directions:

    Drain the liquid from the cooked chickpeas and rinse. Mash the chickpeas into a paste and add the other ingredients (minus the parsley and olive oil) and blend in a blender until you get the desired paste texture (if it gets too thick, add a little water). Add the parsley and drizzle with olive oil before serving.
