Chilean Boldo is considered to be the true species of Boldo native to the Andes Mountains, which stretch across South America. This plant can reach a height of 12 meters or more and the only part used for medicinal purposes are its leaves. Boldo do Chile is often used to relieve symptoms caused by liver disease. As well as being an excellent ally for gastric well-being, Boldo do Chile promotes the balance of intestinal flora. In its natural state, Boldo do Chile grows easily in low humidity environments and stony soils. However, the growth of this tree is rather slow, perhaps due to the local conditions.
Boldo do Chile tea is recommended for treating problems with the stomach, liver, gallbladder and intestines. It is one of the most widely used medicinal teas for relieving symptoms caused by gastritis, indigestion, heartburn (burning sensation in the stomach), constipation, food intolerance, menstrual cramps, flatulence, diarrhea, cystitis, gallstones and high uric acid. By balancing the acidity present in gastric juice, it improves digestion and prevents excessive accumulation of gas in the intestines, thus preventing abdominal bloating. Boldo do Chile can also be an excellent ally in the process of losing weight by promoting detoxification of the body. It is also known for helping to relieve stomach and headaches.
It is also recommended for relieving hangover symptoms (excessive alcohol intake).
Contraindications for boldo tea include gallbladder obstruction and pregnant women should not drink boldo tea either, especially in the first 3 months of pregnancy, because it can cause miscarriage or cause malformations in the fetus.
Method of preparation:
*Recommended water temperature: 100º
*Infusion time: 5 - 10 minutes (must remain covered).
*Recommended amount: 1 teaspoon of Boldo do Chile leaves per cup (240ml).
